Small groups Aramaic

Aramaic in a small group

Eight weeks, one live hour a week, reading Aramaic texts with the same few people from start to finish.

A group starts as soon as 3 people at the same level can make the same hour. There is no term date to wait for.

How it works

  1. 1You say when you're free, in your own time zone, and where you are with the language. It takes two minutes and costs nothing.
  2. 2Your own page shows the group forming: how many people can make the same hour, which hours are closest, and what would get it going sooner.
  3. 3Once 3 people at your level can make the same hour, I confirm it and you get the start date, the weekly time in your own zone, and a calendar invite.
  4. 48 live lessons, once a week, with the same group (3 to 6 people), and the full app for the whole run.

Aramaic groups forming now

Nobody is waiting for this one yet, which means the first group forms around your hours. Put your name down and your page will show you the moment a second person can make the same time.

If private lessons fit your budget, take them: you'll get further, faster. The groups are here so that money isn't the reason someone doesn't learn.

What the 8 weeks cover

From the beginning: Reading Aramaic in Hebrew letters, the words that come up on every page of the Talmud, and the grammar that differs from Hebrew.

For people who already read: Gemara passages read together, the key terms that carry an argument, and the verb forms that make the text move.

It's for you if

  • You learn Daf Yomi and lean on the translation more than you want to
  • You read the Targum and want to follow it on its own
  • You know Hebrew and want the language of the Talmud too

Questions

How is a group different from private lessons?

Private lessons start when you want, at hours you choose, and every minute is about your questions, so you go faster. A group meets at one weekly hour the group shares, starts once it fills, and goes at the group’s pace. In exchange it costs well under half as much per hour.

How much does it cost?

Well under half of what private lessons cost per hour, and nothing is charged until your group is confirmed. The exact price is on your own page the moment you put your name down.

When does it start?

There are no term dates. A group starts as soon as 3 people at the same level can make the same weekly hour, whenever that happens. Your page shows how close yours is, and you get an email the moment it forms.

What if everyone else lives in a different time zone?

You give your free hours in your own time, and the matching works across zones: New York, London and Jerusalem can share an evening hour in Europe. Every time you see, on the page and in email, is in your own time.

How big are the groups?

At least 3 and never more than 6, so everyone speaks every week. The same people for all 8 weeks; nobody joins halfway through.

What if the hour stops working for me?

Say so on your page. Before your group is confirmed you owe nothing, and after that the seat goes to the next person waiting.

Is the app included?

Yes. For the whole run you get the full app: the vocabulary from each lesson, flashcards, reading and homework.

Can I bring a friend?

Please do. Your page has a link that puts them in the same group, and a group with a friend in it fills faster.

Put your name down

Two minutes. You'll see your group forming straight away.
