Genesis 36

ve'elleh toledot esav hu edom

This is the line of Esau—that is, Edom.

esav laqakh et-nashayw mibbenot kena'an et-adah bat-elon hakhitti ve'et-oholivamah bat-anah bat-tsivon hakhivvi

Esau took his wives from among the Canaanite women—Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah daughter of Zibeon the Hivite—

ve'et-basemat bat-yishma'el akhot nevayot

and also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.

vatteled adah le'esav et-elifaz uvasemat yaledah et-re'u'el

Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz; Basemath bore Reuel;

ve'oholivamah yaledah et-[ye'ush] (yysh) ve'et-yalam ve'et-qorakh elleh bene esav asher yulledu-lo be'erets kena'an

and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. Those were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

vayyiqqakh esav et-nashayw ve'et-banayw ve'et-benotayw ve'et-kol-nafshot beto ve'et-miqnehu ve'et-kol-behemto ve'et kol-qinyano asher rakhash be'erets kena'an vayyelekh el-erets mippene ya'aqov akhiv

Esau took his wives, his sons and daughters, and all the members of his household, his cattle and all his livestock, and all the property that he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to another land because of his brother Jacob.

ki-hayah rekhusham rav mishevet yakhdav velo yakhelah erets megurehem laset otam mippene miqnehem

For their possessions were too many for them to dwell together, and the land where they sojourned could not support them because of their livestock.

vayyeshev esav behar se'ir esav hu edom

So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir—Esau being Edom.

ve'elleh toledot esav avi edom behar se'ir

This, then, is the line of Esau, the ancestor of the Edomites, in the hill country of Seir.

elleh shemot bene-esav elifaz ben-adah eshet esav re'u'el ben-basemat eshet esav

These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah; Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

vayyihyu bene elifaz teman omar tsefo vegatam uqenaz

The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

vetimna hayetah filegesh le'elifaz ben-esav vatteled le'elifaz et-amaleq elleh bene adah eshet esav

Timna was a concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz; she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. Those were the descendants of Esau’s wife Adah.

ve'elleh bene re'u'el nakhat vazerakh shammah umizzah elleh hayu bene vasemat eshet esav

And these were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. Those were the descendants of Esau’s wife Basemath.

ve'elleh hayu bene oholivamah vat-anah bat-tsivon eshet esav vatteled le'esav et-[ye'ush] (yysh) ve'et-yalam ve'et-qorakh

And these were the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, daughter of Anah daughter of Zibeon: she bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

elleh allufe vene-esav bene elifaz bekhor esav alluf teman alluf omar alluf tsefo alluf qenaz

These are the clans of the sons of Esau. The descendants of Esau’s first-born Eliphaz: the clans Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

alluf-qorakh alluf gatam alluf amaleq elleh allufe elifaz be'erets edom elleh bene adah

Korah, Gatam, and Amalek; these are the clans of Eliphaz in the land of Edom. Those are the descendants of Adah.

ve'elleh bene re'u'el ben-esav alluf nakhat alluf zerakh alluf shammah alluf mizzah elleh allufe re'u'el be'erets edom elleh bene vasemat eshet esav

And these are the descendants of Esau’s son Reuel: the clans Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these are the clans of Reuel in the land of Edom. Those are the descendants of Esau’s wife Basemath.

ve'elleh bene oholivamah eshet esav alluf ye'ush alluf yalam alluf qorakh elleh allufe oholivamah bat-anah eshet esav

And these are the descendants of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: the clans Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the clans of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

elleh vene-esav ve'elleh allufehem hu edom

Those were the sons of Esau—that is, Edom—and those are their clans.

elleh vene-se'ir hakhori yosheve ha'arets lotan veshoval vetsivon va'anah

These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were settled in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

vedishon ve'etser vedishan elleh allufe hakhori bene se'ir be'erets edom

Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Those are the clans of the Horites, the descendants of Seir, in the land of Edom.

vayyihyu vene-lotan khori vehemam va'akhot lotan timna

The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

ve'elleh bene shoval alvan umanakhat ve'eval shefo ve'onam

The sons of Shobal were these: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

ve'elleh vene-tsivon ve'ayyah va'anah hu anah asher matsa et-hayyemim bammidbar biroto et-hakhamorim letsivon aviv

The sons of Zibeon were these: Aiah and Anah—that was the Anah who discovered the hot springs in the wilderness while pasturing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.

ve'elleh vene-anah dishon ve'oholivamah bat-anah

The children of Anah were these: Dishon and Anah’s daughter Oholibamah.

ve'elleh bene dishan khemdan ve'eshban veyitran ukheran

The sons of Dishon were these: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

elleh bene-etser bilhan veza'avan va'aqan

The sons of Ezer were these: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

elleh vene-dishan uts va'aran

And the sons of Dishan were these: Uz and Aran.

elleh allufe hakhori alluf lotan alluf shoval alluf tsivon alluf anah

These are the clans of the Horites: the clans Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

alluf dishon alluf etser alluf dishan elleh allufe hakhori le'allufehem be'erets se'ir

Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Those are the clans of the Horites, clan by clan, in the land of Seir.

ve'elleh hammelakhim asher malekhu be'erets edom lifne melokh-melekh livne yisra'el

These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites.

vayyimlokh be'edom bela ben-be'or veshem iro dinhavah

Bela son of Beor reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

vayyamot bala vayyimlokh takhtayw yovav ben-zerakh mibbotsrah

When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah, from Bozrah, succeeded him as king.

vayyamot yovav vayyimlokh takhtayw khusham me'erets hattemani

When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

vayyamot khusham vayyimlokh takhtayw hadad ben-bedad hammakkeh et-midyan bisdeh mo'av veshem iro avit

When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king; the name of his city was Avith.

vayyamot hadad vayyimlokh takhtayw samlah mimmasreqah

When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah succeeded him as king.

vayyamot samlah vayyimlokh takhtayw sha'ul merekhovot hannahar

When Samlah died, Saul of Rehoboth-on-the-river succeeded him as king.

vayyamot sha'ul vayyimlokh takhtayw ba'al khanan ben-akhbor

When Saul died, Baal-hanan son of Achbor succeeded him as king.

vayyamot ba'al khanan ben-akhbor vayyimlokh takhtayw hadar veshem iro pa'u veshem ishto mehetavel bat-matred bat me zahav

And when Baal-hanan son of Achbor died, Hadar succeeded him as king; the name of his city was Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred daughter of Me-zahab.

ve'elleh shemot allufe esav lemishpekhotam limqomotam bishmotam alluf timna alluf alvah alluf yetet

These are the names of the clans of Esau, each with its families and locality, name by name: the clans Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

alluf oholivamah alluf elah alluf pinon

Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

alluf qenaz alluf teman alluf mivtsar

Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

alluf magdi'el alluf iram elleh allufe edom lemoshevotam be'erets akhuzzatam hu esav avi edom

Magdiel, and Iram. Those are the clans of Edom—that is, of Esau, father of the Edomites—by their settlements in the land that they hold.
