Micah 5

ve'attah bet-lekhem efratah tsa'ir lihyot be'alfe yehudah mimmekha li yetse lihyot moshel beyisra'el umotsa'otayw miqqedem mime olam

And you, O Bethlehem of Ephrath, Least among the clans of Judah, From you one shall come forth To rule Israel for Me— One whose origin is from of old, From ancient times.

lakhen yittenem ad-et yoledah yaladah veyeter ekhayw yeshuvun al-bene yisra'el

Truly, [God] will leave them [helpless] Until she who is to bear has borne; Then the rest of his kindred Shall return to the children of Israel.

ve'amad vera'ah be'oz Adonai bigon shem Adonai elohayw veyashavu ki-attah yigdal ad-afse-arets

He shall stand and shepherd By the might of GOD, By the power of the name Of the ETERNAL his God, And they shall dwell [secure]. For lo, he shall wax great To the ends of the earth;

vehayah zeh shalom ashur ki-yavo ve'artsenu vekhi yidrokh be'armenotenu vahaqemonu alayw shivah ro'im ushemonah nesikhe adam

And that shall afford safety. Should Assyria invade our land And tread upon our fortresses, We will set up over that nation seven shepherds, Eight princes of other nations,

vera'u et-erets ashur bakherev ve'et-erets nimrod biftakheha vehitsil me'ashur ki-yavo ve'artsenu vekhi yidrokh bigvulenu

Who will shepherd Assyria’s land with swords, The land of Nimrod in its gates. Thus he will deliver [us] From Assyria, should it invade our land, And should it trample our country.

vehayah she'erit ya'aqov beqerev ammim rabbim ketal me'et Adonai kirvivim ale-esev asher lo-yeqavveh le'ish velo yeyakhel livne adam

The remnant of Jacob shall be, In the midst of the many peoples, Like dew from GOD, Like droplets on grass— Which do not look to anybody Nor place their hope in mortals.

vehayah she'erit ya'aqov baggoyim beqerev ammim rabbim ke'aryeh bevahamot ya'ar kikhfir be'edre-tson asher im-avar veramas vetaraf ve'en matsil

The remnant of Jacob Shall be among the nations, In the midst of the many peoples, Like a lion among beasts of the wild, Like a fierce lion among flocks of sheep, Which tramples wherever it goes And rends, with none to deliver.

tarom yadekha al-tsarekha vekhol-oyevekha yikkaretu

Your hand shall prevail over your foes, And all your enemies shall be cut down!

vehayah vayyom-hahu ne'um-Adonai vehikhratti susekha miqqirbekha veha'avadti markevotekha

In that day —declares GOD— I will destroy the horses in your midst And wreck your chariots.

vehikhratti are artsekha veharasti kol-mivtsarekha

I will destroy the cities of your land And demolish all your fortresses.

vehikhratti kheshafim miyyadekha ume'onenim lo yihyu-lakh

I will destroy the sorcery you practice, And you shall have no more soothsayers.

vehikhratti fesilekha umatsevotekha miqqirbekha velo-tishtakhaveh od lema'aseh yadekha

I will destroy your idols And the sacred pillars in your midst; And no more shall you bow down To the work of your hands.

venatashti asherekha miqqirbekha vehishmadti arekha

I will tear down the sacred posts in your midst And destroy your cities.

ve'asiti be'af uvekhemah naqam et-haggoyim asher lo shame'u

In anger and wrath Will I wreak retribution On the nations that have not obeyed.
