Nehemiah 11

vayyeshevu sare-ha'am birushalai͏m ushe'ar ha'am hippilu goralot lehavi ekhad min-ha'asarah lashevet birushalai͏m ir haqqodesh vetesha hayyadot be'arim

The officers of the people settled in Jerusalem; the rest of the people cast lots for one out of ten to come and settle in the holy city of Jerusalem, and the other nine-tenths to stay in the towns.

vayevarekhu ha'am lekhol ha'anashim hammitnaddevim lashevet birushalai͏m

The people gave their blessing to all those who willingly settled in Jerusalem.

ve'elleh rashe hammedinah asher yashevu birushalai͏m uve'are yehudah yashevu ish ba'akhuzzato be'arehem yisra'el hakkohanim vehaleviyyim vehannetinim uvene avde shelomoh

These are the heads of the province who lived in Jerusalem—in the countryside of Judah, the people lived in their towns, each on his own property, Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and the sons of Solomon’s servants,

uvirushalai͏m yashevu mibbene yehudah umibbene vinyamin mibbene yehudah atayah ven-uzziyyah ben-zekharyah ven-amaryah ben-shefatyah ven-mahalalel mibbene-farets

while in Jerusalem some of the Judahites and some of the Benjaminites lived: Of the Judahites: Athaiah son of Uzziah son of Zechariah son of Amariah son of Shephatiah son of Mahalalel, of the clan of Perez,

uma'aseyah ven-barukh ben-kol-khozeh ben-khazayah ven-adayah ven-yoyariv ben-zekharyah ben-hashiloni

and Maaseiah son of Baruch son of Col-hozeh son of Hazaiah son of Adaiah son of Joiarib son of Zechariah son of the Shilonite.

kol-bene-ferets hayyoshevim birushalai͏m arba me'ot shishim ushemonah anshe-khayil

All the clan of Perez who were living in Jerusalem—468 able warriors.

ve'elleh bene vinyamin sallu ben-meshullam ben-yo'ed ben-pedayah ven-qolayah ven-ma'aseyah ben-iti'el ben-yeshayah

These are the Benjaminites: Sallu son of Meshullam son of Joed son of Pedaiah son of Kolaiah son of Maaseiah son of Ithiel son of Jesaiah.

ve'akharayw gabbay sallay tesha me'ot esrim ushemonah

After him, Gabbai and Sallai—928.

veyo'el ben-zikhri paqid alehem vihudah ven-hassenu'ah al-ha'ir mishneh

Joel son of Zichri was the official in charge of them, and Judah son of Hassenuah was the second-in-command of the city.

min-hakkohanim yedayah ven-yoyariv yakhin

Of the priests: Jedaiah son of Joiarib, Jachin,

serayah ven-khilqiyyah ben-meshullam ben-tsadoq ben-merayot ben-akhituv negid bet ha'elohim

Seraiah son of Hilkiah son of Meshullam son of Zadok son of Meraioth son of Ahitub, chief officer of the House of God,

va'akhehem oseh hammelakhah labbayit shemoneh me'ot esrim ushenayim va'adayah ben-yerokham ben-pelalyah ben-amtsi ven-zekharyah ben-pashkhur ben-malkiyyah

and their brothers, who did the work of the House—822; and Adaiah son of Jeroham son of Pelaliah son of Amzi son of Zechariah son of Pashhur son of Malchijah,

ve'ekhayw rashim le'avot matayim arba'im ushenayim va'amashsay ben-azarel ben-akhzay ben-meshillemot ben-immer

and his brothers, heads of clans—242; and Amashsai son of Azarel son of Ahzai son of Meshillemoth son of Immer,

va'akhehem gibbore khayil me'ah esrim ushemonah ufaqid alehem zavdi'el ben-haggedolim

and their brothers, valorous warriors—128. Zabdiel son of Haggedolim was the official in charge of them.

umin-haleviyyim shemayah ven-khashuv ben-azriqam ben-khashavyah ben-bunni

Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub son of Azrikam son of Hashabiah son of Bunni,

veshabbetay veyozavad al-hammelakhah hakhitsonah levet ha'elohim merashe haleviyyim

and Shabbethai and Jozabad of the heads of the Levites were in charge of the external work of the House of God.

umattanyah ven-mikha ben-zavdi ven-asaf rosh hattekhillah yehodeh lattefillah uvaqbuqyah mishneh me'ekhayw ve'avda ben-shammua ben-galal ben-[yedutun] (ydytvn)

Mattaniah son of Micha son of Zabdi son of Asaph was the head; at prayer, he would lead off with praise; and Bakbukiah, one of his brothers, was his second-in-command; and Abda son of Shammua son of Galal son of Jeduthun.

kol-haleviyyim be'ir haqqodesh matayim shemonim ve'arba'ah

All the Levites in the holy city—284.

vehasho'arim aqquv talmon va'akhehem hashomerim bashe'arim me'ah shivim ushenayim

And the gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers, who stood watch at the gates—172.

ushe'ar yisra'el hakkohanim haleviyyim bekhol-are yehudah ish benakhalato

And the rest of the Israelites, the priests, and the Levites in all the towns of Judah [lived] each on his estate.

vehannetinim yoshevim ba'ofel vetsikha vegishpa al-hannetinim

The temple servants lived on the Ophel; Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple servants.

ufeqid haleviyyim birushalai͏m uzzi ven-bani ben-khashavyah ben-mattanyah ben-mikha mibbene asaf hameshorerim leneged melekhet bet-ha'elohim

The overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani son of Hashabiah son of Mattaniah son of Micha, of the Asaphite singers, over the work of the House of God.

ki-mitsvat hammelekh alehem va'amanah al-hameshorerim devar-yom beyomo

There was a royal order concerning them, a stipulation concerning the daily duties of the singers.

ufetakhyah ven-meshezavel mibbene-zerakh ben-yehudah leyad hammelekh lekhol-davar la'am

Petahiah son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah son of Judah, advised the king concerning all the affairs of the people.

ve'el-hakhatserim bisdotam mibbene yehudah yashevu beqiryat ha'arba uvenoteha uvedivon uvenoteha uviqqavtse'el vakhatsereha

As concerns the villages with their fields: Some of the Judahites lived in Kiriath-arba and its outlying hamlets, in Dibon and its outlying hamlets, and in Jekabzeel and its villages;

uveyeshua uvemoladah uvevet palet

in Jeshua, in Moladah, and in Beth-pelet;

uvakhatsar shu'al uviver sheva uvenoteha

in Hazar-shual, in Beer-sheba and its outlying hamlets;

uvetsiqlag uvimkhonah uvivnoteha

and in Ziklag and in Meconah and its outlying hamlets;

uve'en rimmon uvetsorah uveyarmut

in En-rimmon, in Zorah and in Jarmuth;

zanoakh adullam vekhatsrehem lakhish usedoteha azeqah uvenoteha vayyakhanu mibbe'er-sheva ad-ge hinnom

Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages; Lachish and its fields; Azekah and its outlying hamlets. They settled from Beer-sheba to the Valley of Hinnom.

uvene vinyamin miggava mikhmas ve'ayyah uvet-el uvenoteha

The Benjaminites: from Geba, Michmash, Aija, and Bethel and its outlying hamlets;

anatot nov ananeyah

Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

khatsor ramah gittayim

Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,

khadid tsevo'im nevallat

Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

lod ve'ono ge hakharashim

Lod, Ono, Ge-harashim.

umin-haleviyyim makhleqot yehudah levinyamin

Some of the Judahite divisions of Levites were [shifted] to Benjamin.
