וַיְהִ֗י כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר נִבְנְתָה֙ הַחוֹמָ֔ה וָאַעֲמִ֖יד הַדְּלָת֑וֹת וַיִּפָּ֥קְד֛וּ הַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֥ים וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִ֖ים וְהַלְוִיִּֽם׃
vayehi ka'asher nivnetah hakhomah va'a'amid haddelatot vayyippaqedu hasho'arim vehameshorerim vehaleviyyim
When the wall was rebuilt and I had set up the doors, tasks were assigned to the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites.
וָאֲצַוֶּ֞ה אֶת־חֲנָ֣נִי אָחִ֗י וְאֶת־חֲנַנְיָ֛ה שַׂ֥ר הַבִּירָ֖ה עַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם כִּי־הוּא֙ כְּאִ֣ישׁ אֱמֶ֔ת וְיָרֵ֥א אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵרַבִּֽים׃
va'atsavveh et-khanani akhi ve'et-khananyah sar habbirah al-yerushalai͏m ki-hu ke'ish emet veyare et-ha'elohim merabbim
I put Hanani my brother and Hananiah, the captain of the fortress, in charge of Jerusalem, for he was most trustworthy—and more God-fearing than most.
(ויאמר) [וָאֹמַ֣ר] לָהֶ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפָּֽתְח֞וּ שַׁעֲרֵ֤י יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ עַד־חֹ֣ם הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ וְעַ֨ד הֵ֥ם עֹמְדִ֛ים יָגִ֥יפוּ הַדְּלָת֖וֹת וֶאֱחֹ֑זוּ וְהַעֲמֵ֗יד מִשְׁמְרוֹת֙ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם אִ֚ישׁ בְּמִשְׁמָר֔וֹ וְאִ֖ישׁ נֶ֥גֶד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃
(vymr) [va'omar] lahem lo yippatekhu sha'are yerushalai͏m ad-khom hashemesh ve'ad hem omedim yagifu haddelatot ve'ekhozu veha'amed mishmerot yosheve yerushalai͏m ish bemishmaro ve'ish neged beto
I said to them, “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the heat of the day, and before you leave your posts let the doors be closed and barred. And assign the inhabitants of Jerusalem to watches, each man to his watch, and each in front of his own house.”
וְהָעִ֞יר רַחֲבַ֤ת יָדַ֙יִם֙ וּגְדֹלָ֔ה וְהָעָ֥ם מְעַ֖ט בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ וְאֵ֥ין בָּתִּ֖ים בְּנוּיִֽם׃
veha'ir rakhavat yadayim ugedolah veha'am me'at betokhah ve'en battim benuyim
The city was broad and large, the people in it were few, and houses were not yet built.
וַיִּתֵּ֤ן אֱלֹהַי֙ אֶל־לִבִּ֔י וָאֶקְבְּצָ֞ה אֶת־הַחֹרִ֧ים וְאֶת־הַסְּגָנִ֛ים וְאֶת־הָעָ֖ם לְהִתְיַחֵ֑שׂ וָֽאֶמְצָ֗א סֵ֤פֶר הַיַּ֙חַשׂ֙ הָעוֹלִ֣ים בָּרִאשׁוֹנָ֔ה וָאֶמְצָ֖א כָּת֥וּב בּֽוֹ׃ {פ}
vayyitten elohay el-libbi va'eqbetsah et-hakhorim ve'et-hasseganim ve'et-ha'am lehityakhes va'emtsa sefer hayyakhas ha'olim barishonah va'emtsa katuv bo
My God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles, the prefects, and the people, in order to register them by families. I found the genealogical register of those who were the first to come up, and there I found written:
אֵ֣לֶּה ׀ בְּנֵ֣י הַמְּדִינָ֗ה הָעֹלִים֙ מִשְּׁבִ֣י הַגּוֹלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶגְלָ֔ה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וַיָּשׁ֧וּבוּ לִֽירוּשָׁלַ֛͏ִם וְלִיהוּדָ֖ה אִ֥ישׁ לְעִירֽוֹ׃
elleh bene hammedinah ha'olim mishevi haggolah asher heglah nevukhadnetsar melekh bavel vayyashuvu lirushalai͏m velihudah ish le'iro
These are the people of the province who came up from among the captive exiles whom King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had deported, who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to their own city—
הַבָּאִ֣ים עִם־זְרֻבָּבֶ֗ל יֵשׁ֡וּעַ נְחֶמְיָ֡ה עֲ֠זַרְיָ֠ה רַֽעַמְיָ֨ה נַחֲמָ֜נִי מׇרְדֳּכַ֥י בִּלְשָׁ֛ן מִסְפֶּ֥רֶת בִּגְוַ֖י נְח֣וּם בַּעֲנָ֑ה מִסְפַּ֕ר אַנְשֵׁ֖י עַ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {ס}
habba'im im-zerubbavel yeshua nekhemyah azaryah ra'amyah nakhamani mordokhay bilshan misperet bigvay nekhum ba'anah mispar anshe am yisra'el
who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The list of participants from among the people of Israel:

bene avde shelomoh bene-sotay bene-soferet bene ferida
The sons of Solomon’s servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Perida,
בְּנֵי־יַעְלָ֥א בְנֵי־דַרְק֖וֹן בְּנֵ֥י גִדֵּֽל׃ {ס}
bene-yala vene-darqon bene giddel
the sons of Jala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel,
בְּנֵ֧י שְׁפַטְיָ֣ה בְנֵֽי־חַטִּ֗יל {ס} בְּנֵ֛י פֹּכֶ֥רֶת הַצְּבָיִ֖ים בְּנֵ֥י אָמֽוֹן׃ {ס}
bene shefatyah vene-khattil bene pokheret hatsevayim bene amon
the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the sons of Amon.
כׇּ֨ל־הַנְּתִינִ֔ים וּבְנֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֣י שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם׃ {פ}
kol-hannetinim uvene avde shelomoh shelosh me'ot tishim ushenayim
The total of temple servants and the sons of Solomon’s servants—392.
וְאֵ֗לֶּה הָֽעוֹלִים֙ מִתֵּ֥ל מֶ֙לַח֙ תֵּ֣ל חַרְשָׁ֔א כְּר֥וּב אַדּ֖וֹן וְאִמֵּ֑ר וְלֹ֣א יָכְל֗וּ לְהַגִּ֤יד בֵּית־אֲבֹתָם֙ וְזַרְעָ֔ם אִ֥ם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽם׃ {ס}
ve'elleh ha'olim mittel melakh tel kharsha keruv addon ve'immer velo yakhelu lehaggid bet-avotam vezaram im miyyisra'el hem
The following were those who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer—they were unable to tell whether their father’s house and descent were Israelite:
בְּנֵי־דְלָיָ֥ה בְנֵֽי־טוֹבִיָּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י נְקוֹדָ֑א שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם׃ {פ}
bene-delayah vene-toviyyah bene neqoda shesh me'ot ve'arba'im ushenayim
the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda—642.
וּמִן־הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים בְּנֵ֥י חֳבַיָּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י הַקּ֑וֹץ בְּנֵ֣י בַרְזִלַּ֗י אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָ֠קַ֠ח מִבְּנ֞וֹת בַּרְזִלַּ֤י הַגִּלְעָדִי֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה וַיִּקָּרֵ֖א עַל־שְׁמָֽם׃
umin-hakkohanim bene khovayyah bene haqqots bene varzillay asher laqakh mibbenot barzillay haggiladi isha vayyiqqare al-shemam
Of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzillai who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and had taken his name—
אֵ֗לֶּה בִּקְשׁ֧וּ כְתָבָ֛ם הַמִּתְיַחְשִׂ֖ים וְלֹ֣א נִמְצָ֑א וַיְגֹֽאֲל֖וּ מִן־הַכְּהֻנָּֽה׃
elleh biqshu khetavam hammityakhsim velo nimtsa vayego'alu min-hakkehunnah
