vayedabber Adonai el-mosheh ve'el-aharon lemor

GOD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:

naso et-rosh bene qehat mittokh bene levi lemishpekhotam levet avotam

Take a [separate] census of the Kohathites among the Levites, by the clans of their ancestral house,

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah kol-ba latsava la'asot melakhah be'ohel mo'ed

from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who are subject to service, to perform tasks for the Tent of Meeting.

zot avodat bene-qehat be'ohel mo'ed qodesh haqqodashim

This is the responsibility of the Kohathites in the Tent of Meeting: the most sacred objects.

uva aharon uvanayw binsoa hammakhaneh vehoridu et parokhet hammasakh vekhissu-vah et aron ha'edut

At the breaking of camp, Aaron and his sons shall go in and take down the screening curtain and cover the Ark of the Pact with it.

venatenu alayw kesuy or takhash ufaresu veged-kelil tekhelet milma'elah vesamu baddayw

They shall lay a covering of dolphin skin over it and spread a cloth of pure blue on top; and they shall put its poles in place.

ve'al shulkhan happanim yifresu beged tekhelet venatenu alayw et-haqqe'arot ve'et-hakkappot ve'et-hammenaqqiyyot ve'et qesot hannasekh velekhem hattamid alayw yihyeh

Over the table of display they shall spread a blue cloth; they shall place upon it the bowls, the ladles, the jars, and the libation jugs; and the regular bread shall rest upon it.

ufaresu alehem beged tola'at shani vekhissu oto bemikhseh or takhash vesamu et-baddayw

They shall spread over these a crimson cloth that they shall cover with a covering of dolphin skin; and they shall put the poles in place.

velaqekhu beged tekhelet vekhissu et-menorat hamma'or ve'et-neroteha ve'et-malqakheha ve'et-makhtoteha ve'et kol-kele shamnah asher yesharetu-lah bahem

Then they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand for lighting, with its lamps, its tongs, and its fire pans, as well as all the oil vessels that are used in its service.

venatenu otah ve'et-kol-keleha el-mikhseh or takhash venatenu al-hammot

They shall put it and all its furnishings into a covering of dolphin skin, which they shall then place on a carrying frame.

ve'al mizbakh hazzahav yifresu beged tekhelet vekhissu oto bemikhseh or takhash vesamu et-baddayw

Next they shall spread a blue cloth over the altar of gold and cover it with a covering of dolphin skin; and they shall put its poles in place.

velaqekhu et-kol-kele hasharet asher yesharetu-vam baqqodesh venatenu el-beged tekhelet vekhissu otam bemikhseh or takhash venatenu al-hammot

They shall take all the service vessels with which the service in the sanctuary is performed, put them into a blue cloth and cover them with a covering of dolphin skin, which they shall then place on a carrying frame.

vedishenu et-hammizbeakh ufaresu alayw beged argaman

They shall remove the ashes from the [copper] altar and spread a purple cloth over it.

venatenu alayw et-kol-kelayw asher yesharetu alayw bahem et-hammakhtot et-hammizlagot ve'et-hayya'im ve'et-hammizraqot kol kele hammizbeakh ufaresu alayw kesuy or takhash vesamu vaddayw

Upon it they shall place all the vessels that are used in its service: the fire pans, the flesh hooks, the scrapers, and the basins—all the vessels of the altar—and over it they shall spread a covering of dolphin skin; and they shall put its poles in place.

vekhillah aharon-uvanayw lekhassot et-haqqodesh ve'et-kol-kele haqqodesh binsoa hammakhaneh ve'akhare-khen yavo'u vene-qehat laset velo-yigge'u el-haqqodesh vametu elleh massa vene-qehat be'ohel mo'ed

When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sacred objects and all the furnishings of the sacred objects at the breaking of camp, only then shall the Kohathites come and lift them, so that they do not come in contact with the sacred objects and die. These things in the Tent of Meeting shall be the porterage of the Kohathites.

ufequddat elazar ben-aharon hakkohen shemen hamma'or uqetoret hassammim uminkhat hattamid veshemen hammishkhah pequddat kol-hammishkan vekhol-asher-bo beqodesh uvekhelayw

Responsibility shall rest with Eleazar son of Aaron the priest for the lighting oil, the aromatic incense, the regular grain offering, and the anointing oil—responsibility for the whole Tabernacle and for everything consecrated that is in it or in its vessels.

vayedabber Adonai el-mosheh ve'el-aharon lemor

GOD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:

al-takhritu et-shevet mishpekhot haqqehati mittokh haleviyyim

Do not let the group of Kohathite clans be cut off from the Levites.

vezot asu lahem vekhayu velo yamutu begishtam et-qodesh haqqodashim aharon uvanayw yavo'u vesamu otam ish ish al-avodato ve'el-massa'o

Do this with them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most sacred objects: let Aaron and his sons go in and assign every one of them, in turn, to his duties and to his porterage.

velo-yavo'u lirot kevalla et-haqqodesh vametu

But let not [the Kohathites] go inside and witness the dismantling of the sanctuary, lest they die.

GOD spoke to Moses:

Take a census of the Gershonites also, by their ancestral house and by their clans.

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ad ben-khamishim shanah tifqod otam kol-habba litsvo tsava la'avod avodah be'ohel mo'ed

Record them from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who are subject to service in the performance of tasks for the Tent of Meeting.

zot avodat mishpekhot haggereshunni la'avod ulemassa

These are the duties of the Gershonite clans as to labor and porterage:

venase'u et-yeri'ot hammishkan ve'et-ohel mo'ed mikhsehu umikhseh hattakhash asher-alayw milma'elah ve'et-masakh petakh ohel mo'ed

they shall carry the cloths of the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting with its covering, the covering of dolphin skin that is on top of it, and the screen for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting;

ve'et qale hekhatser ve'et-masakh petakh sha'ar hekhatser asher al-hammishkan ve'al-hammizbeakh saviv ve'et meterehem ve'et-kol-kele avodatam ve'et kol-asher ye'aseh lahem ve'avadu

the hangings of the enclosure, the screen at the entrance of the gate of the enclosure that surrounds the Tabernacle, the cords thereof, and the altar, and all their service equipment and all their accessories; and they shall perform the service.

al-pi aharon uvanayw tihyeh kol-avodat bene haggereshunni lekhol-massa'am ulekhol avodatam ufeqadtem alehem bemishmeret et kol-massa'am

All the duties of the Gershonites, all their porterage and all their service, shall be performed on orders from Aaron and his sons; you shall make them responsible for attending to all their porterage.

zot avodat mishpekhot bene haggereshunni be'ohel mo'ed umishmartam beyad itamar ben-aharon hakkohen

Those are the duties of the Gershonite clans for the Tent of Meeting; they shall attend to them under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

bene merari lemishpekhotam levet-avotam tifqod otam

As for the Merarites, you shall record them by the clans of their ancestral house;

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah tifqedem kol-habba latsava la'avod et-avodat ohel mo'ed

you shall record them from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who are subject to service in the performance of the duties for the Tent of Meeting.

vezot mishmeret massa'am lekhol-avodatam be'ohel mo'ed qarshe hammishkan uverikhayw ve'ammudayw va'adanayw

These are their porterage tasks in connection with their various duties for the Tent of Meeting: the planks, the bars, the posts, and the sockets of the Tabernacle;

ve'ammude hekhatser saviv ve'adnehem vitedotam umeterehem lekhol-kelehem ulekhol avodatam uveshemot tifqedu et-kele mishmeret massa'am

the posts around the enclosure and their sockets, pegs, and cords—all these furnishings and their service: you shall list by name the objects that are their porterage tasks.

zot avodat mishpekhot bene merari lekhol-avodatam be'ohel mo'ed beyad itamar ben-aharon hakkohen

Those are the duties of the Merarite clans, pertaining to their various duties in the Tent of Meeting under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

vayyifqod mosheh ve'aharon unesi'e ha'edah et-bene haqqehati lemishpekhotam ulevet avotam

So Moses, Aaron, and the chieftains of the community recorded the Kohathites by the clans of their ancestral house,

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah kol-habba latsava la'avodah be'ohel mo'ed

from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who were subject to service for work relating to the Tent of Meeting.

vayyihyu fequdehem lemishpekhotam alpayim sheva me'ot vakhamishim

Those recorded by their clans came to 2,750.

elleh fequde mishpekhot haqqehati kol-ha'oved be'ohel mo'ed asher paqad mosheh ve'aharon al-pi Adonai beyad-mosheh

That was the enrollment of the Kohathite clans, all those who performed duties relating to the Tent of Meeting, whom Moses and Aaron recorded at GOD’s command through Moses.

ufequde bene gereshon lemishpekhotam ulevet avotam

The Gershonites who were recorded by the clans of their ancestral house,

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah kol-habba latsava la'avodah be'ohel mo'ed

from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who were subject to service for work relating to the Tent of Meeting—

vayyihyu pequdehem lemishpekhotam levet avotam alpayim veshesh me'ot usheloshim

those recorded by the clans of their ancestral house came to 2,630.

elleh fequde mishpekhot bene gereshon kol-ha'oved be'ohel mo'ed asher paqad mosheh ve'aharon al-pi Adonai

That was the enrollment of the Gershonite clans, all those performing duties relating to the Tent of Meeting whom Moses and Aaron recorded at GOD’s command.

ufequde mishpekhot bene merari lemishpekhotam levet avotam

The enrollment of the Merarite clans by the clans of their ancestral house,

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah kol-habba latsava la'avodah be'ohel mo'ed

from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who were subject to service for work relating to the Tent of Meeting—

vayyihyu fequdehem lemishpekhotam sheloshet alafim umatayim

those recorded by their clans came to 3,200.

elleh fequde mishpekhot bene merari asher paqad mosheh ve'aharon al-pi Adonai beyad-mosheh

That was the enrollment of the Merarite clans that Moses and Aaron recorded at GOD’s command through Moses.

kol-happequdim asher paqad mosheh ve'aharon unesi'e yisra'el et-haleviyyim lemishpekhotam ulevet avotam

All the Levites whom Moses, Aaron, and the chieftains of Israel recorded by the clans of their ancestral houses,

mibben sheloshim shanah vamalah ve'ad ben-khamishim shanah kol-habba la'avod avodat avodah va'avodat massa be'ohel mo'ed

from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who were subject to duties of service and porterage relating to the Tent of Meeting—

vayyihyu pequdehem shemonat alafim vakhamesh me'ot ushemonim

those recorded came to 8,580.

al-pi Adonai paqad otam beyad-mosheh ish ish al-avodato ve'al-massa'o ufequdayw asher-tsivvah Adonai et-mosheh

Each one, in turn, was given responsibility for his service and porterage at GOD’s command through Moses, and each was recorded as GOD had commanded Moses.
