maskil le'etan ha'ezrakhi

A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.

khasde Adonai olam ashirah ledor vador odia emunatekha befi

I will sing of GOD’s steadfast love forever; to all generations I will proclaim Your faithfulness with my mouth.

ki-amarti olam khesed yibbaneh shamayim takhin emunatekha vahem

I declare, “Your steadfast love is confirmed forever; there in the heavens You establish Your faithfulness.”

karatti verit livkhiri nishbati ledavid avdi

“I have made a covenant with My chosen one; I have sworn to My servant David:

ad-olam akhin zarekha uvaniti ledor-vador kisakha selah

I will establish your offspring forever, I will confirm your throne for all generations.” Selah.

veyodu shamayim pilakha Adonai af-emunatekha biqhal qedoshim

Your wonders, O ETERNAL One, are praised by the heavens, Your faithfulness, too, in the assembly of holy beings.

ki mi vashakhaq ya'arokh la-Adonai yidmeh la-Adonai bivne elim

For who in the skies can equal GOD, can compare with GOD among the divine beings,

el na'arats besod-qedoshim rabbah venora al-kol-sevivayw

a God greatly dreaded in the council of holy beings, held in awe by those all around?

Adonai elohe tseva'ot mi-khamokha khasin yah ve'emunatekha sevivotekha

O ETERNAL One, God of hosts, who is mighty like You, O Yah? Your faithfulness surrounds You;

attah moshel bege'ut hayyam beso gallayw attah teshabbekhem

You rule the swelling of the sea; when its waves surge, You still them.

attah dikkita khekhalal rahav bizroa uzzekha pizzarta oyevekha

You crushed Rahab; he was like a corpse; with Your powerful arm You scattered Your enemies.

lekha shamayim af-lekha arets tevel umelo'ah attah yesadtam

The heaven is Yours, the earth too; the world and all it holds— You established them.

tsafon veyamin attah veratam tavor vekhermon beshimkha yerannenu

North and south— You created them; Tabor and Hermon sing forth Your name.

lekha zeroa im-gevurah ta'oz yadekha tarum yeminekha

Yours is an arm endowed with might; Your hand is strong; Your right hand, exalted.

tsedeq umishpat mekhon kisekha khesed ve'emet yeqaddemu fanekha

Righteousness and justice are the base of Your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness stand before You.

ashre ha'am yode'e teru'ah Adonai be'or-panekha yehallekhun

Happy is the people who know the joyful shout; O ETERNAL One, they walk in the light of Your presence.

beshimkha yegilun kol-hayyom uvetsidqatekha yarumu

They rejoice in Your name all day long; they are exalted through Your righteousness.

ki-tiferet uzzamo attah uvirtsonekha (trym) [tarum] qarnenu

For You are their strength in which they glory; our horn is exalted through Your favor.

ki la-Adonai maginnenu veliqdosh yisra'el malkenu

Truly our shield is of GOD, our monarch, of the Holy One of Israel.

az dibbarta-vekhazon lakhasidekha vattomer shivviti ezer al-gibbor harimoti vakhur me'am

Then You spoke to Your faithful ones in a vision and said, “I have conferred power upon a warrior; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

matsati david avdi beshemen qodshi meshakhtiv

I have found David, My servant; anointed him with My sacred oil.

asher yadi tikkon immo af-zero'i te'ammetsennu

My hand shall be constantly with him, and My arm shall strengthen him.

lo-yashi oyev bo uven-avlah lo ye'annennu

No enemy shall oppress him, no one vile afflict him.

vekhattoti mippanayw tsarayw umesanayw eggof

I will crush his adversaries before him; I will strike down those who hate him.

ve'emunati vekhasdi immo uvishmi tarum qarno

My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him; his horn shall be exalted through My name.

vesamti vayyam yado uvanneharot yemino

I will set his hand upon the sea, his right hand upon the rivers.

hu yiqra'eni avi attah eli vetsur yeshu'ati

He shall say to Me, ‘You are my father, my God, the rock of my deliverance.’

af-ani bekhor ettenehu elyon lemalkhe-arets

I will appoint him first-born, highest of the kings of the earth.

le'olam (shmvr) [eshmor-]lo khasdi uveriti ne'emenet lo

I will maintain My steadfast love for him always; My covenant with him shall endure.

vesamti la'ad zaro vekhiso kime shamayim

I will establish his line forever, his throne, as long as the heavens last.

im-ya'azvu vanayw torati uvemishpatay lo yelekhun

If his sons forsake My Teaching and do not live by My rules;

im-khuqqotay yekhallelu umitsvotay lo yishmoru

if they violate My laws, and do not observe My commands,

ufaqadti veshevet pisham uvinga'im avonam

I will punish their transgression with the rod, their iniquity with plagues.

vekhasdi lo-afir me'immo velo-ashaqqer be'emunati

But I will not take away My steadfast love from him; I will not betray My faithfulness.

lo-akhallel beriti umotsa sefatay lo ashanneh

I will not violate My covenant, or change what I have uttered.

akhat nishbati veqodshi im-ledavid akhazzev

I have sworn by My holiness, once and for all; I will not be false to David.

zaro le'olam yihyeh vekhiso khashemesh negdi

His line shall continue forever, his throne, as the sun before Me,

keyareakh yikkon olam ve'ed bashakhaq ne'eman selah

as the moon, established forever, an enduring witness in the sky.” Selah.

ve'attah zanakhta vattimas hitabbarta im-meshikhekha

Yet You have rejected, spurned, and become enraged at Your anointed.

ne'artah berit avdekha khillalta la'arets nizro

You have repudiated the covenant with Your servant; You have dragged his dignity in the dust.

paratsta khol-gederotayw samta mivtsarayw mekhittah

You have breached all his defenses, shattered his strongholds.

shassuhu kol-overe darekh hayah kherpah lishkhenayw

All who pass by plunder him; he has become the butt of his neighbors.

harimota yemin tsarayw hismakhta kol-oyevayw

You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries, and made all his enemies rejoice.

af-tashiv tsur kharbo velo haqemoto bammilkhamah

You have turned back the blade of his sword, and have not sustained him in battle.

hishbatta mitteharo vekhiso la'arets miggartah

You have brought his splendor to an end and have hurled his throne to the ground.

hiqtsarta yeme alumayw he'etita alayw bushah selah

You have cut short the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah.

ad-mah Adonai tissater lanetsakh tivar kemo-esh khamatekha

How long, O ETERNAL One; will You forever hide Your face, will Your fury blaze like fire?

zekhor-ani meh-khaled al-mah-shav barata khol-bene-adam

O remember how short my life is; why should You have created every person in vain?

mi gever yikhyeh velo yireh-mmavet yemallet nafsho miyyad-she'ol selah

Who can live and not see death, can escape the clutches of Sheol? Selah.

ayyeh khasadekha harishonim adonay nishbata ledavid be'emunatekha

O my Sovereign, where is Your steadfast love of old that You swore to David in Your faithfulness?

zekhor adonay kherpat avadekha se'eti vekheqi kol-rabbim ammim

Remember, O my Sovereign, the abuse flung at Your servants that I have borne in my bosom [from] many peoples,

asher kherefu oyevekha Adonai asher kherefu iqqevot meshikhekha

how Your enemies, O ETERNAL One, have flung abuse, abuse at Your anointed at every step.

barukh Adonai le'olam amen ve'amen

Blessed is GOD forever; Amen and Amen.
