תַּמְרוּרִיםtamrurim meaning in Biblical Hebrew

bitterness (bitter weeping) · noun, masculine plural (abstract plural)
Illustration for the Biblical Hebrew word tamrurim

Rachel weeps on the road out of the land, and a few verses later the same road is lined with markers telling her children which way is home. Jeremiah spells both of them tamrurim.

קוֹל בְּרָמָה נִשְׁמָע נְהִי בְּכִי תַמְרוּרִים רָחֵל מְבַכָּה עַל־בָּנֶיהָ

“A voice is heard in Ramah, lament, weeping of bitterness: Rachel weeping for her children. (Jeremiah 31:15)”

What were the tamrurim that pointed you back home: bitter days, or actual road signs?
