velivne aharon makhleqotam bene aharon nadav va'avihu elazar ve'itamar

The divisions of the Aaronites were: The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

vayyamot nadav va'avihu lifne avihem uvanim lo-hayu lahem vayekhahanu elazar ve'itamar

Nadab and Abihu died in the lifetime of their father, and they had no children, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.

vayyekhaleqem david vetsadoq min-bene elazar va'akhimelekh min-bene itamar lifquddatam ba'avodatam

David, Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar divided them into offices by their tasks.

vayyimmatse'u vene-elazar rabbim lerashe haggevarim min-bene itamar vayyakhlequm livne elazar rashim levet-avot shisha asar velivne itamar levet avotam shemonah

The sons of Eleazar turned out to be more numerous by male heads than the sons of Ithamar, so they divided the sons of Eleazar into sixteen chiefs of clans and the sons of Ithamar into eight clans.

vayyakhlequm begoralot elleh im-elleh ki-hayu sare-qodesh vesare ha'elohim mibbene elazar uvivne itamar

They divided them by lot, both on an equal footing, since they were all sanctuary officers and officers of God—the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.

vayyikhtevem shemayah ven-netanel hassofer min-hallevi lifne hammelekh vehassarim vetsadoq hakkohen va'akhimelekh ben-evyatar verashe ha'avot lakkohanim velalviyyim bet-av ekhad akhuz le'elazar ve'akhuz akhuz le'itamar

Shemaiah son of Nathanel, the scribe, who was of the Levites, registered them under the eye of the king, the officers, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the chiefs of clans of the priests and Levites—one clan more taken for Eleazar for each one taken of Ithamar.

lehaqqots hashevi'i la'aviyyah hashemini

the seventh on Hakkoz; the eighth on Abijah;

leyeshua hatteshi'i lishkhanyahu ha'asiri

the ninth on Jeshua; the tenth on Shecaniah;

le'elyashiv ashte asar leyaqim shenem asar

the eleventh on Eliashib; the twelfth on Jakim;

lekhuppah sheloshah asar leyeshevav arba'ah asar

the thirteenth on Huppah; the fourteenth on Jeshebeab;

levilgah khamisha asar le'immer shisha asar

the fifteenth on Bilgah; the sixteenth on Immer;

lekhezir shivah asar lehappitsets shemonah asar

the seventeenth on Hezir; the eighteenth on Happizzez;

liftakhyah tishah asar likhezqel ha'esrim

the nineteenth on Pethahiah; the twentieth on Jehezkel;

leyakhin ekhad ve'esrim legamul shenayim ve'esrim

the twenty-first on Jachin; the twenty-second on Gamul;

lidlayahu sheloshah ve'esrim lema'azyahu arba'ah ve'esrim

the twenty-third on Delaiah; the twenty-fourth on Maaziah.

elleh fequddatam la'avodatam lavo levet-Adonai kemishpatam beyad aharon avihem ka'asher tsivvahu Adonai elohe yisra'el

According to this allocation of offices by tasks, they were to enter the House of GOD as was laid down for them by Aaron their father, as the ETERNAL God of Israel had commanded him.

The remaining Levites: the sons of Amram: Shubael; the sons of Shubael: Jehdeiah;

Rehabiah. The sons of Rehabiah: Isshiah, the chief.

Izharites: Shelomoth. The sons of Shelomoth: Jahath

uvenay yeriyyahu amaryahu hasheni yakhazi'el hashelishi yeqamam harevi'i

and Benai, Jeriah; the second, Amariah; the third, Jahaziel; the fourth, Jekameam.

bene uzzi'el mikhah livne mikhah (shmvr) [shamir]

The sons of Uzziel: Micah. The sons of Micah: Shamir.

akhi mikhah yishiyyah livne yishiyyah zekharyahu

The brother of Micah: Isshiah. The sons of Isshiah: Zechariah.

bene merari makhli umushi bene ya'aziyyahu veno

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Jaazaiah, his son—

bene merari leya'aziyyahu veno veshoham vezakkur ve'ivri

the sons of Merari by Jaazaiah his son: Shoham, Zakkur, and Ibri.

lemakhli elazar velo-hayah lo banim

Mahli: Eleazar; he had no sons.

leqish bene-qish yerakhme'el

Kish: the sons of Kish: Jerahmeel.

uvene mushi makhli ve'eder virimot elleh bene haleviyyim levet avotehem

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites by their clans.

vayyappilu gam-hem goralot le'ummat akhehem bene-aharon lifne david hammelekh vetsadoq va'akhimelekh verashe ha'avot lakkohanim velalviyyim avot harosh le'ummat akhiv haqqatan

These too cast lots corresponding to their kindred, the sons of Aaron, under the eye of King David and Zadok and Ahimelech and the chiefs of the clans of the priests and Levites, on the principle of “chief and youngest brother alike.”
