שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת לְדָ֫וִ֥ד שָׂ֭מַחְתִּי בְּאֹמְרִ֣ים לִ֑י בֵּ֖ית יְהֹוָ֣ה נֵלֵֽךְ׃

shir hamma'alot ledavid samakhti be'omerim li bet Adonai nelekh

A song of ascents. Of David. I rejoiced when they said to me, “We are going to the House of GOD.”

עֹ֭מְדוֹת הָי֣וּ רַגְלֵ֑ינוּ בִּ֝שְׁעָרַ֗יִךְ יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃

omedot hayu raglenu bisharayikh yerushalai͏m

Our feet stood inside your gates, O Jerusalem,

יְרוּשָׁלַ֥͏ִם הַבְּנוּיָ֑ה כְּ֝עִ֗יר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־לָּ֥הּ יַחְדָּֽו׃

yerushalai͏m habbenuyah ke'ir shekhubberah-llah yakhdav

Jerusalem built up, a city knit together,

שֶׁשָּׁ֨ם עָל֪וּ שְׁבָטִ֡ים שִׁבְטֵי־יָ֭הּ עֵד֣וּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְ֝הֹד֗וֹת לְשֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָֽה׃

shesham alu shevatim shivte-yah edut leyisra'el lehodot leshem Adonai

to which tribes would make pilgrimage, the tribes of Yah, as was enjoined upon Israel— to praise GOD’s name.

כִּ֤י שָׁ֨מָּה ׀ יָשְׁב֣וּ כִסְא֣וֹת לְמִשְׁפָּ֑ט כִּ֝סְא֗וֹת לְבֵ֣ית דָּוִֽד׃

ki shammah yashevu khisot lemishpat kisot levet david

There the thrones of judgment stood, thrones of the house of David.

שַׁ֭אֲלוּ שְׁל֣וֹם יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם יִ֝שְׁלָ֗יוּ אֹהֲבָֽיִךְ׃

sha'alu shelom yerushalai͏m yishlayu ohavayikh

Pray for the well-being of Jerusalem; “May those who love you be at peace.

יְהִי־שָׁל֥וֹם בְּחֵילֵ֑ךְ שַׁ֝לְוָ֗ה בְּאַרְמְנוֹתָֽיִךְ׃

yehi-shalom bekhelekh shalvah be'armenotayikh

May there be well-being within your ramparts, peace in your citadels.”

לְ֭מַעַן אַחַ֣י וְרֵעָ֑י אֲדַבְּרָה־נָּ֖א שָׁל֣וֹם בָּֽךְ׃

lema'an akhay vere'ay adabberah-nna shalom bakh

For the sake of my kin and friends, I pray for your well-being;

לְ֭מַעַן בֵּית־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ אֲבַקְשָׁ֖ה ט֣וֹב לָֽךְ׃ {פ}

lema'an bet-Adonai elohenu avaqshah tov lakh

for the sake of the house of the ETERNAL our God, I seek your good.
