שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת לִשְׁלֹ֫מֹ֥ה אִם־יְהֹוָ֤ה ׀ לֹא־יִבְנֶ֬ה בַ֗יִת שָׁ֤וְא עָמְל֣וּ בוֹנָ֣יו בּ֑וֹ אִם־יְהֹוָ֥ה לֹא־יִשְׁמׇר־עִ֝֗יר שָׁ֤וְא ׀ שָׁקַ֬ד שׁוֹמֵֽר׃
shir hamma'alot lishlomoh im-Adonai lo-yivneh vayit shav amelu vonayw bo im-Adonai lo-yishmor-ir shav shaqad shomer
A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless GOD builds the house, its builders labor in vain on it; unless GOD watches over the city, the guard keeps vigil in vain.
שָׁ֤וְא לָכֶ֨ם מַשְׁכִּ֪ימֵֽי ק֡וּם מְאַחֲרֵי־שֶׁ֗בֶת אֹ֭כְלֵי לֶ֣חֶם הָעֲצָבִ֑ים כֵּ֤ן יִתֵּ֖ן לִידִיד֣וֹ שֵׁנָֽא׃
shav lakhem mashkime qum me'akhare-shevet okhele lekhem ha'atsavim ken yitten lidido shena
In vain do you rise early and stay up late, you who toil for the bread you eat; God’s loved ones are provided for while they sleep.
הִנֵּ֤ה נַחֲלַ֣ת יְהֹוָ֣ה בָּנִ֑ים שָׂ֝כָ֗ר פְּרִ֣י הַבָּֽטֶן׃
hinneh nakhalat Adonai banim sakhar peri habbaten
Sons are the provision of GOD; the fruit of the womb, divine reward.
כְּחִצִּ֥ים בְּיַד־גִּבּ֑וֹר כֵּ֝֗ן בְּנֵ֣י הַנְּעוּרִֽים׃
kekhitsim beyad-gibbor ken bene hanne'urim
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are sons born to a man in his youth.
אַשְׁרֵ֤י הַגֶּ֗בֶר אֲשֶׁ֤ר מִלֵּ֥א אֶת־אַשְׁפָּת֗וֹ מֵ֫הֶ֥ם לֹֽא־יֵבֹ֑שׁוּ כִּֽי־יְדַבְּר֖וּ אֶת־אוֹיְבִ֣ים בַּשָּֽׁעַר׃ {פ}
ashre haggever asher mille et-ashpato mehem lo-yevoshu ki-yedabberu et-oyevim basha'ar
Happy is the man who fills his quiver with them; they shall not be put to shame when they contend with the enemy in the gate.
