The Jerusalem Bridge

הִטִּיףhittif meaning in Biblical Hebrew

to preach (literally: to drip) · verb (Hiphil of נָטַף)

In Amos and Micah, preaching is dripping: the same drop on the same spot, day after day, until the people underneath snap 'stop dripping on us.'

וְעַתָּה שְׁמַע דְּבַר־יְהוָה אַתָּה אֹמֵר לֹא תִנָּבֵא עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא תַטִּיף עַל־בֵּית יִשְׂחָק

“Now hear the word of the LORD: you say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drip [preach] against the house of Isaac.' (Amos 7:16)”

Picture a cracked stone ceiling after rain: one drop, then another, right onto the altar at Bethel.
