Kolot · Biblical Hebrew · For groups
Read Genesis in Hebrew together.
A free first term for your church, class or co-op. Each person learns on their own, about ten minutes a day, and every unit ends in a real verse of Genesis. When you meet, you read that verse together, and every word in it is one they learned.
The free term
You choose the dates
A term runs between a first and a last day you pick, for as many people as your group has. Every lesson is open to them for the whole term.
They join with one code
You get a link and a six-letter code to pass on. Each person opens it, makes a free account in a minute, and starts lesson 1 on their own phone or computer.
Their progress stays theirs
When the term ends the code stops opening the lessons, and nothing they learned is lost: their words, their review and their verses stay in their account.
What you see as the leader
Your own private page, read-only, with one row per person:
- Each person's lessons done
- How many words each one has learned
- How often they answer right the first time
- When each one last practised
- The group's average, on one page you can print
Each person is told, when they join, exactly what you will see. Their recordings never leave their phone, and nobody in the group sees anyone else.
What they read
16 lessons in 4 units. Each unit ends in a verse:
Unit 1 · Genesis 25:34
And Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and got up and went. And Esau despised the birthright.
Unit 2 · Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Unit 3 · Genesis 28:11
And he came to the place and stayed the night there, because the sun had gone down. He took some of the stones of the place and put one at his head, and lay down in that place.
Unit 4 · Genesis 28:18
And Jacob got up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put at his head, and set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on its top.
It is a language course, open to every reader. The lessons teach Hebrew words, grammar and reading. They ask no one to agree with a reading of the text.

- Before the first meeting. Pass on the join link and the code. Ask everyone to do lesson 1 before you meet: it takes about ten minutes, and nobody needs to know the Hebrew letters.
- Between meetings. One lesson a day, or every other day, and the short review waiting for them the next day. Four lessons make a unit.
- When you meet. Read the unit's verse aloud together, each person from their own screen. Ask which word each one remembered first, and which one still trips them.
- Questions. Each lesson has an “Ask Yaacov” button. The question comes to me and I answer it by email.
- Your page. Open your leader's link once a week to see who has kept going, and print it if your group likes to see how far it has come.
The first verse your group reads: Genesis 25:34
וְיַעֲקֹב נָתַן לְעֵשָׂו לֶחֶם וּנְזִיד עֲדָשִׁים וַיֹּאכַל וַיֵּשְׁתְּ וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלַךְ וַיִּבֶז עֵשָׂו אֶת־הַבְּכֹרָה׃
Ask for a class code
Tell me about your group and when you would like to start. I set up the term and send you the code, the join link and your leader's page.

I am Yaacov. I was born in Jerusalem and grew up reading these texts in Hebrew. Many of my students are Christians who want to read the Bible in Hebrew. My job is the language: to make it clear and to give you the practice to keep it.
